Just me and my snacks

I am hungry all the time.
I know some people say you’re supposed to eat 3 larger meals, yet others say go for smaller meals and have snacks, but I look forward to my snack breaks. If I could snack all day long, I would with no shame.
So let’s talk snacks.
If you know anything about me, this blog won’t be a surprise to you.
As I’m writing this, I am currently snacking- again no surprise.
Everyone has different taste buds, so everyone has their different go-to snacks. I am here to write about my top five snacks.
1. Mixed nuts
I can’t deny that I get the big tub of mixed nuts from Sam’s Club. When packing my lunch, I always grab a Ziploc bag and fill it with nuts because I know that it will fill me up. Although I have a sweet tooth, when I want a snack, I am looking for something saltier. If I really want something sweet, I’ll either add chocolate chips to the bag or get the trail mix kind that has some form of chocolate chip, m&m, or covered raisin.
2. Dried fruit
The famous dried mango from Trader Joes is my favorite. Let me tell you, I go through those bags in days; it’s fascinating how fast they are gone. I learned that I have to grab at least 2 or maybe 4 for it to last. Sometimes I even pair it with the mixed nuts, and it’s so good. I also enjoy dried apples and bananas. I swear people think I’m so weird for it because it always looks funky. If I’m starting to run low, I have to make a pit stop at Trader Joes. Unfortunately, my favorite dried fruit all comes from TJs, but that’s why I stock up and grab more than one bag when I go.

3. Carrots & hummus
I’ve always loved carrots and used to think they made your eyesight better; that’s a myth, but it was a good way to get me to start eating them mom. Anyways, I would eat them with peanut butter or ranch, depending on the mood I was in. Then, I was introduced to hummus and that’s all I’ll eat them with. There are so many different types of hummus you can get that it makes it fun to try the carrots with the different varieties. I have to say that my top two favorite types are the roasted pine nut hummus and the garlic one. Fun fact, they make a chocolate hummus that’s rather tasty with some pretzels.
4. Apple & peanut butter
This is a classic for sure. I have to say, I think I eat peanut butter in some form or another almost every day if that gives you any context. I don’t eat just any peanut butter either, definitely a Jif gal. I remember trying Skippy and thinking it wasn’t nearly as good as Jif. Now the real question is crunchy or creamy? I tend to get crunchy, but I will settle for creamy because it’s still peanut butter. Although I could eat a spoonful by itself, pairing it with a Honeycrisp apple is the best. The juicy-ness of the apple mixed with the crunch of the peanut butter is just something else.
5. Cheese & crackers
I love cheese. I think I could eat almost any cheese and somehow not get sick of it, except maybe for Roquefort cheese (that one isn’t my cup of tea). Roaming down the dairy aisle is a bit dangerous for me, if there are samples then it’s a game-changer. After having spent a semester in Montpellier, France, I had the luxury of trying all the French cheeses and falling in love with them. While it may not always be Comte cheese and a fresh baguette from the local supermarket, I will continue to eat cheese and crackers regularly. I know they say dairy is not great for you—but a little cheese won’t hurt, right? Wow I could really go for some baked Brie right now with some sea salt crackers from Trader Joes.

As you see, I love my snacks. While those weren’t always my top five, I have been consistent and am known to always be eating one of the five, which makes my friends laugh at how silly I am when it comes to my snacks. Although I have my top five, I am always open to suggestions and trying new foods. So, if you have a snack recommendation or combination, send it my way and maybe it’ll make the list.
