People often say that I’m type A.

This doesn’t surprise me one bit.

Are you the organized, ambitious and competitive one? Or are you more of a laid-back, collaborative and creative person?

Before I dive deeper into the personality types, I found this graphic that depicts the two personalities and how they differ.

While there are some distinct differences, you may have found yourself identifying with both Type A and B.

How I know I’m Type A:

1. I hate having a full inbox. I am constantly checking my emails and categorizing them in different folders. One of the first things I do when I wake up is to check my emails, I may or may not be proud of it.

2. I can’t live without my planner. I write everything, I kid you not, in my planner. From the homework assignments to the basketball games, to birthdays and lunch plans. Not only do I have little boxes that I check off, but it’s also color-coded. I’m a freak, I know. But hey, I won’t forget about the plans we made if I write them down.

3. You can bet that my bookmark tabs do have folders, in addition to all my coursework.

4. I would disagree with the coffee picture. I would align more with Type B, as I drink my coffee black, or with a little splash of almond milk.

5. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good takeout or grab-and-go meal, but I do have to admit I try to meal prep and think ahead on which days I will need to pack a lunch.

This is why I want to focus more on the Enneagram test, as I find it to be more accurate and reflective of one’s personality.

I took the test a couple of years ago and got Type 3: The Achiever.

I recently re-took the test, and guess what? Still the same, which made me laugh.

Type 3s are described with the following adjectives: adaptable, excelling, driven and image-conscious.

Basic fear: being worthless

Basic desire: want to feel valuable

Motivations: want to be affirmed, to distinguish from other, attention, and to impress others

It’s almost freaky to read all the different descriptions because they are quite accurate.

I mean they even make playlists that align with your type.

“They are frequently hard working, competitive and are highly focused in the pursuit of their goals…while Threes do tend to succeed in whatever realm they focus their energies, they are often secretly afraid of being or becoming losers.”

I encourage you all to take the test and learn more about who you are and how you handle different situations. It’s also very interesting to read more about how you are at your best and worst, and how you work with other types.

Ultimately there’s no one better personality, whether you’re Type A or Type B, introvert or extrovert.

While personality types aren’t the end all be all, it’s important to under yourself and how you work best with other types.
